03 - 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
04 - 1/2 cup panko bread crumbs
05 - 1/4 cup freshly grated parmesan cheese
06 - 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
07 - 1/2 teaspoon salt

→ Green Bean Mixture

08 - 24 ounces fresh green beans, trimmed and halved
09 - 1 tablespoon salt, for blanching
10 - 1/4 cup unsalted butter
11 - 1 tablespoon minced garlic
12 - 4 ounces mushrooms, finely diced
13 - 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
14 - 1 1/2 cups half and half
15 - 1 1/2 cups chicken broth
16 - 1 1/2 teaspoons salt, for sauce
17 - 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
18 - 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
19 - 1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves

# Steps:

01 - Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). In a large bowl, combine sliced onions with olive oil. Toss to coat evenly. Add flour, panko bread crumbs, parmesan, garlic powder, and salt. Mix thoroughly to ensure uniform coating. Arrange onions in a single layer on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
02 - Transfer baking sheet to preheated oven. Bake onions for 25 to 30 minutes, stirring every 10 minutes until golden brown and crisp. Remove from oven and set aside. Reduce oven temperature to 375°F (190°C).
03 - Fill a large pot with water and bring to a boil. Add 1 tablespoon salt and green beans. Blanch for 4 to 5 minutes until beans are bright green and slightly tender. Drain and immediately transfer beans to a bowl of ice water to halt cooking. Drain thoroughly and set aside.
04 - In a large skillet over medium heat, melt butter. Add minced garlic and sauté for 1 minute until fragrant. Add diced mushrooms and cook for 3 to 5 minutes until softened and moisture is released. Sprinkle in flour and cook, stirring constantly, for 2 minutes until incorporated.
05 - Slowly whisk in half and half and chicken broth. Add salt, pepper, onion powder, and thyme. Stir continuously and simmer for 5 to 7 minutes until the sauce thickens.
06 - Add blanched green beans to the skillet with mushroom sauce. Toss gently to coat beans evenly. Transfer mixture to a lightly greased 9x13-inch baking dish.
07 - Spread crispy onions evenly over the top of the green beans. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 20 to 25 minutes until the casserole is bubbly and onions are golden. Allow to cool slightly before serving.

01 - Store-bought crispy onions may be substituted for homemade to save time.
